No Meeting In July

Coming in August

How and where do you start to write your life's memories for your grandchildren?
Do you write them letters, create poems, make a list or design a dissertation?

On August 11th, join UWG in welcoming two wonderful, local women politicians who will share their stories about the 'how, when, where and what' of memoir writing.

UWG Advisor Patty Cafferata and her mom, the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich, will present how they accomplished the documentation of their pasts and eventually published Vucanovich' memoirs for friends, family and fans who enjoy the historical adventures of two female political pioneers. Cafferata has also published several historical books which will be available at the meeting.

Currently an attorney, Cafferata was the first woman elected to Constitutional office in Nevada as state treasurer in 1982. When she was appointed district attorney of Esmeralda County to fill a vacancy, she became the only woman and one of only three people to serve as district attorney of three Nevada counties. Cafferata established the Eastern Slope Publisher Company to publish short stories which focus on Nevada History. The company name is patterned after the name of a newspaper that circulated in Washoe County, Nevada from 1865 to 1868.

Former member of Congress, Barbara Vucanovich, was elected in November 1982 to serve Nevada's 2nd District in Congress and after serving seven terms in Congress, she retired in 1996. Congresswoman Vucanovich was the first woman to be elected to a federal office from Nevada. She was the first Representative for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, which encompasses most of the State of Nevada with the exception of Las Vegas and the town of Henderson.
